Motie, Da Silva emerge as leading players in WI Championship

Gudakesh Motie ended with the most wickets in the tournament

Leading wicket-taker Gudaksh Motie has placed his name into the selection hat ahead of next month’s Test series against Sri Lanka. Motie is in line to be the lead spinner after he claimed 29 wickets in the 2026 West Indies Championship.
Trinidad and Tobago Red Force Captain Joshua Da Silva was the leading run-scorer with 413 runs. He will be hoping to return to the Test side after a successful campaign. Amir Jangoo was behind Da Silva’s tally by two runs, ending the tournament with 411 runs.
Guyanese Tagenarine Chanderpaul had 401 runs in the season, and he will be hoping to keep his place in the Test side next month.
Barbadian Kevin Wickham, who took the tournament by storm with three centuries on the trot, finished with 393 runs. Matthew Nandu, who scored the highest score of 237 by a batsman this season, scored 353 runs in the tournament. He rounded out the top five leading run scorers.
After Gudakesh Motie’s 29 wickets, seamer Anderson Phillip ended with 24 wickets in the tournament. Jayden Seales claimed 23 wickets in the tournament with the best bowling figures of 7-34 in the tournament.
Guyana Harpy Eagles pair Veerasammy Permaul had 18 wickets, while Nial Smith had 16 scalps to round out the top five leading bowlers in the West Indies championship. In addition to Nandu’s double century, Da Silva and Jangoo scored double centuries of their own.
The first West Indies and Sri Lanka Test match is set to start from June 25 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. Teams are expected to be named in the coming weeks for all three formats.
