Motorcyclist dragged by moving car in Turkeyen accident

Daniel Austin of D’Urban Street, Lodge, Georgetown, is now hospitalised after he rode into a concrete median on Friday last, and was later dragged by a moving car some 50 feet away on the Turkeyen Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Police said the accident occurred on New Year’s Day at about 03:30h on the Turkeyen Railway Embankment Road, in the vicinity of the Caricom Secretariat.
Reports are the motor car was driven by a 31-year-old male of Better Hope North Squatting Area, ECD. According to Police, the motorcyclist was riding in the rain, west along the southern side of the Turkeyen Railway Embankment, and while in the vicinity of the Caricom Secretariat, he rode into the concrete median on the southern side of the road.
As a result, he fell onto the southern lane of the road and according to eyewitnesses, after laying on the roadway for some time, he was struck by the passing motor car driven by the 31-year-old.
Police said at the time the motor car was also proceeding west along the southern lane of the said road. As a result, the motorcyclist ended up under the car and was dragged some 50 feet away from the scene, and received further injuries about his body.
He was picked up in a semi-conscious state by public-spirited citizen and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he was admitted as a critical patient.
He reportedly suffered a fractured right wrist, multiple lacerations to the face and right-side body, and trauma to the head.
Meanwhile, a breathalyser test was conducted on the driver of the motor car, but no trace of alcohol was found. He is in custody assisting with the investigation.
