Motorcyclist’s arm amputated after collision with motor car at LBI

Forty-one-year-old Randy Rutherford of Rasville, Roxanne Burnham Gardens, Georgetown is in serious condition after reportedly being struck down along the La Bonne Intention (LBI) access road, East Coast Demerara (ECD) by a motor car driven by a drunken man on Monday evening.

Based on reports received, motor car PRR 3440, being driven by a 25-year-old man of Mon Repos North, ECD, was proceeding north along the LBI access road when motorcycle CH 8019, being driven by Rutherford, allegedly overtook a lorry and ended up in the path of the motor car.
In the resulting collision, Rutherford reportedly fell on the roadway and sustained injuries about his body.
He was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was admitted a patient suffering from an amputated left hand, broken left foot, and other injuries about his body.

A breathalyser test conducted on the driver of the motor car proved that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. He remains in custody pending charges.
Over the past weekend, taxi driver Devaskar Jetoo of New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara and 24-year-old Nazad Ali of Atlantic Gardens, ECD died following a three-vehicle smash-up in the vicinity of the Liliendaal Railway Embankment, ECD.
In another accident, 38-year-old Deocharran Dass of New Providence, Mahaicony, ECD and 31-year-old Bhickram Singh of Mortice Branch Road, Mahaicony were killed after the car in which they were travelling ran off the Mahaicony Branch Road and ended up in a trench.
Also, over the weekend, 48-year-old Eon Howard of Samaroo Street, B Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown died after he lost control of the motorcycle he was riding and it crashed in the vicinity of Carnegie School of Home Economics in Georgetown.
It has been reported that all these accidents involved motor vehicles speeding.
