Motorcyclist killed in Berbice collision

Hours after an East Canje cyclist was killed after being run over by a car, another man was on Friday struck down and killed by a canter on his way home.
Dead is Nizam Haniff, 45, of 141 High Reef Albion, Corentyne.
The man had gone to pay an electricity bill and was on his way home when the accident occurred.

Police say motorcycle CF 2522, ridden by Haniff, was proceeding east along the roadway. It then turned onto Copper Access Road when the canter, GAC 329, which was heading in the said direction, overtook another vehicle and the front right-side collided with the motorcyclist.
The injured man was taken to the Port Mourant Hospital and due to his injuries, he was transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he was treated and further referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital but died on his way.
Family members say the victim was bleeding from his hose and ears and there was nothing much doctors at the New Amsterdam Hospital could have done to save his life.
“They tried their best,” his daughter Nafeeza told this publication. The father of four leaves a widow behind.
The Traffic Department in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) has recorded 13 road fatalities thus far for the year.
