“My bet is on West Indies” – King

Former West Indies and Guyana fast bowler Reon King is very optimistic the West Indies team will prevail over Pakistan in their three match T20 series starting today in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Though King expects a good showing from the Pakistanis, he does not believe it will be enough to top the Caribbean side even with the absence of three of their key players, Chris Gayle, Andre Russell and Lendl Simmons. “I think it is two unpredictable teams, West Indies a bit more formidable and consistent in the T20 and they are World Champions in this format. while, Pakistan also without some key players namely Shahid Afridi would want to put out a good showing in their “home” Dubai……It will be a good series but my bet is on West Indies, the more dominant of the two teams”, the former fast bowler said in an interview with Guyana Times Sport.

He is quite confident that in the absence of the marquee players, the emerging players selected will step up to do the goods.

In relation to Marlon Samuels, the most experience player in the camp, King is hopeful he would take his limited over form into the other versions to set an example for the other members in the side. King who represented West Indies 69 times also would like to see exemplary leadership from the captain of the side Carlos Braithwaite. With that the former Guyanese player believe there would be a better atmosphere within the camp. As a former fast bowler he shared his perspective on the factor of fast bowling in the Caribbean, which he says is resurrecting and with good governance he believes, could rise again to be among the dominant aspect of the West Indies performance.

West Indies is set to tackle Pakistan in a T20 series starting today and ending on September 27. There are consider favourites to win the series and move to the top of the T20 rankings. However, unpredictable Pakistan stands in their way.
