My selection in the hands of the selectors, says Foo

He displayed all-round brilliance in Lower Corentyne’s match-up against defending champions Essequibo in the ongoing SBF Cricket Guyana Inc (CGI) 50-Overs Franchise, scoring a match-winning 86 — his second score above 80 in this tournament — and taking 2-20 in 10 top overs of bowling to contribute to Essequibo’s first loss in this tournament.

Then the 29-year-old Jonathan Foo told Guyana Times Sport that his possible selection to participate in the Regional Super 50 tournament, slated for November 6, is in the hands of the selectors.
This right-handed batsman has been experiencing a rich vein of form this season, scoring more than 200 runs for his Lower Corentyne team.
Describing the match against Essequibo as a good game, and declaring it was important for his team to bat out all of its overs,
Foo had this to say: “I am just trying to spend as much time as possible at the crease, (during which I would) put away the bad balls, pay respect to the good balls, and rotate the strike”.

Although likely possessing the tournament’s strongest attack bowling force, comprising former West Indies fast bowler Ronsford Beaton and the Adams brothers, who are all impressive left-arm spinners, Essequibo was defeated by Lower Corentyne when they met head-on. Reflecting on his impressive knock against these feared Essequibo bowlers, this right-handed player who is known for his power hitting said he has been working towards his selection to participate in the Super50 tournament, and he is confident it is a distinct possibility.
He has looked more mature than ever in this ongoing tournament, the highest local league in senior cricket in Guyana.
West Indies are set to tour India and play Afghanistan in November, and a few Guyana Jaguars players will be on tour with that West Indies team. Among them are Shimron Hetmyer, Romario Shepherd, Keemo Paul and Sherfane Rutherford, who will be missing for some fixtures in the Super50. Participation of the injured Chandrapaul Hemraj may also be in doubt.
Besides Foo, players who have been performing creditably in the ongoing league include Nial Smith, Anthony Adams, Kemol Savory and Kevin Sinclair, and they all may fancy their chances for selection to West Indies duty.
Foo made his List ‘A’ debut in 2011, and last played a List ‘A’ match in 2017. He has participated in five List ‘A’ matches and 30 T20 matches since making his T20 debut for Guyana in July 2010. (Brandon Corlette)
