The Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) has thus released a statement which said, “The GTTA would like to formally notify members of the table tennis fraternity and the general public that due to several issues beyond our control, the GTTA National Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Championships and Senior Edition are now scheduled at the above date at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall. The Junior and Cadet Championships will engage male and female players in the 18 and 15 age categories, with a novice’s component while the Senior Championships will engage senior men and women with an Under-21 men and women and B and C Class component. The national championships are the premier domestic tournament and are used for the crowning of national champions and serve as a key component for establishing ranking and selection among other benefits. With the continental qualification event for Games of XXXII Olympiad scheduled for April 15-April 19, 2020 and the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics scheduled for August 2020, many of the regional and international scheduled activities have been advanced. This will see the Caribbean Junior and Cadet Championships scheduled for March 2020, the Caribbean Senior Championships scheduled for April 2-April 8 in Havana, Cuba as the qualification event for the 2021 World Table Tennis Championships in Houston, Texas, USA and the Continental Olympic qualification event being held early in 2020. This will provide greater impetus to the national championships.
