Need for Speed Karting Championship moved to Thomas Lands venue

Officials with the winning team (St Lawrence Primary)

The opening round of the Need for Speed Karting Championship has been relocated to the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) facility at Thomas Lands following challenges with preparations at the original venue on the West Bank of Demerara.
Organisers announced that ongoing renovation works at the West Bank venue have affected the completion of track preparations, preventing the facility from meeting the required timeline for safety testing and event readiness.
As a result, the decision was made to move the event to the Thomas Lands circuit, which organisers believe is well-equipped to host the championship.
According to organisers, the move will allow the competition to proceed as scheduled while ensuring a safe environment for competitors and spectators. Work at the original venue is expected to continue before future events are staged there.
The organisers also announced that the planned meet and greet activity at West Central Mall has been postponed. A new date for the event will be announced at a later time.
The Need for Speed Karting Championship is expected to feature many of Guyana’s leading young drivers as they compete for championship honours throughout the season.
