New Police Youth Group formed at Campbelltown Village, Mahdia

Just a week after a Police Youth Group was established in the village of Micobie on the lower Potaro River in the Potaro-Siparuni Region, another was over the weekend launched at Campbeltown located north of Mahdia.

The group comprised 80 youths who will participate in events organised by the Force and more so, the community. These include pageantry, educational competition, sports competitions, educational classes and site visiting, just to name a few. The youths will also participate in various competitions against other groups.
At the launch, Assistant Superintendent of Police Oswald Pitt spoke to the youths on topical issues including domestic violence, sexual abuse, drug abuse and teenage pregnancy among other topics.
The officer also spoke extensively to the youths on the importance of school and education, adding that education is the most important key in unlocking prosperity.
Pitt also assured the youths that the Regional Police Administration of Region Eight and the Guyana Police Force as a whole will support them in their education and also assist them in other areas.
Meanwhile, Community Relations Officer, Sergeant Hakim in brief remarks urged the youths not to see the Police as an enemy but to see them as a friend.
He also urged them to be brave and have a bold spirit as those two qualities will contribute to them developing into great products of their community. He added that the future of their community and country lies within their hands and the power is with them to make a difference and contribute meaningfully to their community.
The group was formed at the community centre ground in the presence of Assistant Superintendent Oswald Pitt, Subordinate Officer-in-Charge Regional Police Divisional Headquarters No 8 and Community Relations Officer, Sergeant Hakim; Community Relations Representative, Woman Lance Corporal Persaud along with members of the Village Council and Community Policing Group.
