A 35-year-old resident of North Ruimveldt, Georgetown landed before the courts on Wednesday for the offence of armed robbery, which he allegedly committed against three persons.
Osafo Denhart appeared before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts and was not required to plead to the three charges after they were read to him.
The first charge detailed that on March 21 at Jamoon Drive, Meadow Brook, Georgetown, while being in company of others and armed with a dangerous weapon – a gun, Denhart robbed Lawrence McKay of a 25-pennyweight gold chain valued $400,000, one ring valued $150,000 and a diamond bracelet valued $375,000.
Another charge stated that on the same day and location, while being armed with a gun, he robbed Sherwin LaFleur of a phone valued $26,000, followed by Ulric Edwards, who he robbed of a cellular phone valued $26,000.
The court heard objections to bail made based on the grounds that the defendant was previously convicted and sentenced to two years in prison for a similar charge in 2014, and a weapon was used to rob all three victims.
Magistrate McGusty upheld the prosecution’s submission and remanded Denhart to prison. The case will continue on April 22, 2020.
