Youth development organisation, Nulli Secundus, has completed its expedition for this year, which entailed taking the organisation’s skills and expertise to the hinterland people.
Vice President of the organization, Tiffany Gable, informed Guyana Times on Friday of some of the work which was done with youths in Regions Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) and Eight (Potaro-Siparuni) during the past three weeks.
“It’s a youth organisation that started 11 years ago and the name means ‘second to none’. What the organisation is about is youth development and youth empowerment because we believe that the future leaders should be groomed from youths. We’re involved in a lot of community outreach activities and that would be why we visited interior families this year,” she said.
She noted that the villagers were equipped with a variety of resources but were unable to use them. As such, they were taught and certified in areas such as

Information Technology and cake decorating among others.
The expedition consisted 28 of its members and commenced on August 8, ending earlier this week. For the past four years, five such trips were organised but the last one was fixed to link the hinterland communities.
Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) was also supposed to be part of the mission but that segment was cancelled due to the rainy season and the deplorable condition of the roads. Nevertheless, the Vice President posited that they were still able to reach a majority of the population.
“Expedition Link Up was supposed to link Regions Seven, Eight and Nine but due to inclement weather conditions which affected the roads, we were only able to link Regions Seven and Eight. In these villages, we did training mainly in cake decorating and Computer Science at the elementary stage. We were able to link resources that these communities had with the skill because a lot of them had the equipment but were unable to use them,” stated Gable.
She noted that that in the process, the youths of the organisation were also exposed to the lifestyle of persons in remote communities.
“Another thing about the expedition is that we are able to see Guyana from outside of the capital city and also being able to share skills and experiences with people of these communities.”
While they are welcoming members from the hinterland to join the group, Gable indicated that they’re still working towards the challenging factors such as communication.
“We plan on extending the branch of Nulli Secundus around Guyana and so we working on that. We will have the next expedition next year.”
