Heavy rain on Saturday night and Sunday morning prevented the eagerly anticipated rivalry among the young footballers who were expected to participate in the triple header at the Esplanade Park, New Amsterdam Berbice on Sunday.
Corriverton Links FC were expected to take on Mahaicony Thunder Hawks FC in the opening game before the ten teams from the Bartica Football Association (BFA) which are participating in the tournament took part in the march-past. The other teams are; Canefield Diamond Strikers, Cougars, East Bank, Hopetown United Rangers, Monedderlust, New Amsterdam United, Paradise Invaders and Rosignol United.
The tournament is being viewed as an integral part of the development process of young footballers and will include nine associations affiliated with the Guyana Football Federation (GFF).
These associations are: Bartica Football Association (BFA), Berbice Football Association (BFA), East Demerara Football Association (EDFA), East Bank Football Association (EBFA), Essequibo Coast/Pomeroon Football Association, Georgetown Football Association (GFA), Repununi Football Association (RFA), Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) and the West Demerara Football Association (WDFA).
Other matches which were scheduled for Sunday, include the clash of two of the competition’s favourites; Monedderlust against New Amsterdam United. The other game which was affected was the matchup between Paradise Invaders and Canefield Diamond Strikers.
The League Tournament is scheduled to continue until November 2016 at various venues across the country after which a one month break is expected after which it continues in January 2017 for a further six months period.
