Operator caught stealing employer’s fuel on bail

A front-end loader operator was on Wednesday released on $150,000 on a simple larceny charge brought against him.
Mohinder Persaud was accused of stealing fuel worth $1,050,000 belonging to Caricom Rice Mill located at Anna Regina, Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) over a period of time. He appeared at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court, where he pleaded not guilty and was granted bail.
Guyana Times understands that during a three-month period, Persaud allegedly drained the fuel from several loaders and resold it to other operators at the Capoey Sand Pit. After realising that the fuel was missing on several occasions, the owner and other employees set up a sting operation whereby Persaud was caught in the act. He was detained by the businessman and later handed over to the Police.
The case will continue on September 16, 2020.
