“Our mandate is to produce cricketers”– Walters

Secretary of the Albion Cricket Club Vemen Walters hailed the overall performances of the club during 2017 and promised that 2018 will see greater strides being made.
Albion recently copped the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Club of the Year Award for 2017 during last December’s annual award ceremony held at the Umana Yana following the success of a huge number of their players on the local, regional and international scene.
Walter told

Devendra Bishoo

Guyana Times Sport during a brief interview that he was proud to be affiliated with the club for a number of decades while pointing out that it was great to see the players coming out of the club, going onto to play for Guyana and the West Indies.
“We have performed well over the past year as a cricket club, especially a year in which very little cricket was played however we were still able to retain our award while we also continued to fulfill our mandate to produce cricketers,” said Walter.
The Club which has produced a number of Guyana and West Indies players including Sew Shivnarine, Sewnarine Chattergoon, Narsingh Deonarine, Devendra Bishoo, Veerasammy Permaul and others; has won the Club Award four times in the last five years and eight overall.

Veerasammy Permaul

With a reputation as a club known for producing large number of national and international players over the course of its existence; the Secretary attributed the success to the hard work of the executives and the dedication shown by the players who have a single goal; to succeed.
Walter credited the likes of Permaul, Bishoo, Jonathan Foo, Gudakesh Motie and numerous others who have been making strides with the National team, franchise teams in the Caribbean Premier League or internationally with the West Indies and have been the poster players for Albion over a number of years.
He also highlighted a few of the club’s domestic stars like; Balchand Baldeo, David Latchaya, Kandasammy Surujnarine, Sharaz Ramcharran; all of whom were successful playing for their respective franchises in last year’s Jaguars Franchise League competitions.
The long-serving Albion member also revealed that the club will be having its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and elections of office bearers on January 17. He noted that regardless of the executive body, the mandate is to promote cricket and unearth new talent for the benefit of Guyana and West Indies cricket.
