Painter charged for Bourda Market robbery

A painter appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts to answer to a robbery under arms charge. Michael King appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore, where he pleaded not guilty to the charge.

It was alleged that on July 11, he robbed Wayne Miller of $500,000 in cash, $23,000 in Guyana Power and Light prepaid cards and a black purse valued $5000 at Robb Street, Georgetown.

According to reports, around 23:00h on July 11, Miller, 51, a vendor of Grove, East Bank Demerara, was attacked while operating his business at Bourda Market.

Reports are that during the robbery, Miller raised an alarm and public spirited citizens went to his aid, apprehending King in the process.

In court on Friday, defence Attorney Paul Fung-A-Fat told the court that the prison is overcrowded and as such he is requesting that his client be granted bail.

However, the lawyer’s submission was overruled and his client was remanded to prison. The case will continue on July 27.
