Pedestrian hospitalised following Enmore accident

A 58-year-old pedestrian of Logwood, Enmore East Coast Demerara (ECD) is now hospitalised after he was struck down by a motorcar while crossing the Enmore Public Road on Saturday.
The accident, which took place at around 11:00h, involved Rajchand Sackiechand, the pedestrian, and a 43-year-old resident of Haslington ECD, who was the driver of the car.
Based on reports received, motorcar PYY8946 was proceeding west along the southern side of the Enmore Public Road while in the vicinity of the Logwood Burial Ground when the pedestrian was crossing the road from south to north in a staggering state.
While in the centre of the road, Sackiechand turned back and ended up in the path of the motorcar, and a collision occurred. As a result of that collision, Sackiechand ended up on the vehicle’s front windowscreen, where he received injuries. He then fell on the roadway and received further injuries about his body.
He was picked up in an unconscious state by the driver of the motorcar, with the help of public-spirited citizens, and taken to the Nabaclis Health Centre, where he was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) for further treatment.
On his arrival at the GPHC, he was admitted a patient and is currently being treated for a broken right foot and lacerations about his body.
Following the accident, Police revisited the scene, and checks were made for CCTV cameras, which were futile. A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of the motor car, but no trace of alcohol was found in his breath.
A notice of intended prosecution was served on the driver. He is presently in Police custody assisting with the investigation. (G9)
