Pedestrian killed by speeding car while attempting to cross roadway

A pedestrian was, on Wednesday evening, struck down and killed by a speeding car while attempting to cross the Amelia’s Ward Public Road in Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice).
The dead man has been identified as 23-year-old Jahiem McBean, a resident of Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden.
Based on reports received, the accident occurred at about 23:20h and involved motor car PAF 6133, which was at the time being driven by a 25-year-old resident of the South Amelia’s Ward Housing Scheme, Linden.
Reports indicate that the motor car was proceeding along the Amelia’s Ward Public Road, allegedly at a fast rate of speed, when McBean, who was standing on the northern side of the road, suddenly attempted to cross from north to south.
The driver reportedly applied the brakes and swerved right in an attempt to avoid a collision, but the left front portion of the motor car struck McBean.
As a result of the collision, McBean sustained injuries. He was picked up and transported to the Linden Hospital Complex, where he was pronounced dead.
Breathalyser tests conducted on the driver showed readings of 0.10 and 0.09 micrograms, respectively. He was arrested and is assisting with the investigations.
