― teams’ draw on this Saturday

The second Petra Organised Limacol Round Robin Knock out Football Tournament is slated to kick-off on January 22 at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC), Bourda. The teams will know their group placing  this Saturday, when  the organizing body host a drawing from 14:30h at the Spice Garden Restaurant, Campbellville.
According to Co-Director of the Petra Organisation Troy Mendonca, the inclement weather was the reason for the shuffle in commencement dates and that after the drawing, the hope is to have the fixtures for the first round on Monday.

The three-weeks of round robin football will see matches being played every Monday or Sunday in Georgetown, Friday or Sunday in Linden and Saturday in either West Demerara or East Coast of Demerara.
Mendonca was quizzed on his viewpoint of having the tournament in the future reach the standard of possible parallel league to the Elite League as a way of being the avenue for relegation and promotion of teams.
He stated, “There are plans that the Guyana Football [GFF] have in stream but that is for them to disclose, but it is our dream, that is just where we want this tournament to go and hopefully over the next two or three years the standard will raise and the GFF can consider this as such a league.”
With matches being set to play at GFC, Victoria Ground on the East Coast of Demerara, Leonora Stadium (West Demerara) and McKenzie Sports Club (Linden), Mendonca is pleased with the   interest shown by teams thus far and said that he is happy to be part of an activity aimed at enhancing the sport.
