PGS employee allegedly stole millions from client

– went on shopping spree

A security officer attached to the Professional Guard Service (PGS) was arrested after he was accused of robbing the entity of $10 million on Wednesday last.
The 50-year-old man of La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WBD), was employed with the company for a number of years.
According to reports received, he and a team went to collect money from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport and whilst there, he was left in the escort van along with the money.
When his colleagues returned, they realised that the 50-year-old man was nowhere to be found and the bag containing the money was missing.
They immediately made a report at the Timehri Police Station and an investigation was launched by members of the Major Crimes Investigation Unit.
However, on Saturday, the unit dispatched a team to the man’s La Parfaite Harmonie home where they managed to capture him along with a substantial amount of cash and jewellery.
The police are working on the theory that he might have gone on a shopping spree after stealing the money.
As such, the items were confiscated and he was arrested.
When this publication made contact with the owner of the security firm, he confirmed the robbery but declined to make any further comment.
