PI into murder of marketing rep to begin this week

The Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the murder of 23-year-old Navindra Samaroo, the marketing representative who was shot dead by armed men just after leaving a city bank, will commence this week before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Charged with his murder are Dwayne Castello, 27, also called “Top Cat” of East Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, Georgetown, and Keanu Alexander. They were not required to plead to the indictable charge which alleged that on July 23, 2020, at Middle Road, La Penitence, Georgetown, they murdered Samaroo during a robbery.

According to the facts, Samaroo had visited a city bank and the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) to conduct business for the company he works for, G&J Phone Cards Investment on Mandela Avenue, Georgetown, before heading home to collect his lunch. However, on his way back to work, he was gunned down while sitting in his motor car, PPP 1645, at Middle Road, La Penitence.
Castello was apprehended several weeks after the shooting during which he opened fire on ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF). He is also facing charges for having an illegal firearm and matching ammunition and discharging a gun at a Police rank.
The case will be called on Friday. (G1)
