One man has been taken into custody following the discovery of a large amount of ganja in a minibus during a roadblock exercise on the Weldaad Public Road, West Coast Berbice, on Monday last.

Based on reports received, on the day in question, minibus BSS 4302, with a total of 12 passengers, including the driver, was stopped at a roadblock and searched. In the trunk of the minibus, a black suitcase was found to be carrying two bulky parcels wrapped in transparent plastic, containing a quantity of cannabis.
Questioned about the said suitcase, the driver pointed out a male passenger, who admitted ownership of the ganja. The suspect was arrested and taken to the Weldaad Police Station along with the cannabis, where it was weighed in his presence and amounted to 5,444 grams.
This passenger remains in custody as investigations continue.
