Turbo Knockout Football

The Guyana Police Force FC showed that they are intent on taking home the Turbo knockout tournament spoils, as they handed a crushing defeat to Beacon FC on the second night of competition.

A glimpse of the contest between Santos (black and white) and Buxton United

The tournament, which is in its second year, saw a double portion of football action on Wednesday evening, as 16 teams battle in hopes of clinching the grand prize of $800,000.
The straight knockout format of the tournament poses a challenge for the participating teams of having to excel from the first game.
In Police’s case, they did just that, showing that the team still have some leftover momentum from the previous tournament which they won.
In the electrifying encounter, Deon Alfred was the first player to find the back of the net, placing Beacon in an advantageous position. But their reign was short-lived as Manaset Primo of Police netted his team’s first goal in the 34th minute. Three minutes later, Beacon volleyed an own goal, which was followed by Anthio Wallace’s double. His brace pushed the lead to 4-1 for Police at halftime.
When the whistle sounded again, Beacon were the first to rejoice in the second half with a goal from Kiefer Brandt in the 60th minute. But Beacon’s reply was followed by a flurry of goals from Police players. Manaset Primo completed his helmet-trick with goals in the 70th and 74th minutes. Stephan Ramsey later netted Police’s seventh and final goal for a 7-2 finish.
The other match of the night also held its own thrills as Santos FC met Buxton United’s Under-20 team. Santos’ scoring was opened by Samuel Dey in the 22nd minute and three minutes later, a mistake by Buxton saw Santos being rewarded with another goal. Buxton then began to attack, but their efforts were not rewarded as they were unable to pierce the capable hands of Santos’ goalkeeper. Ronaldo Dover opened the second half with another precise shot for Santos and a while later in the 60th minute, Tyron Harper flashed a glimmer of hope for Buxton, but regulation time soon ran out on the youth team leaving the score at 3-1 in Santos’ favour.
The action will continue on Monday, November 12 with another two exciting games. It will be a clash of West Coast versus East Coast when Pouderoyen meet Buxton Stars in the first game of the night. Then, Fruta Conquerors (Under-20) and Mahaica Determinators will close off the night of activities with their contest beginning at 20:00h. All matches are being played at the Ministry of Education Ground, Carifesta Avenue.
