“Top Gun” Hopkinson and Dr Pravesh Harry excel at IPSC/Suriname Open 2018

Local marksmen continued their fine form throughout 2018 as Guyanese Pravesh Harry and Harold “Top Gun” Hopkinson were among the top gunners in the 2018 International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) Suriname Open, held at the MTC Shooting Ranges, Grankreekweg.

The Guyanese duo was among the top shooters at the annual event flocked by shooters from Aruba, Barbados, Jamaica, French Guiana, Guyana and the hosts –Suriname. The 63-year-old Hopkinson, the IPSC Regional Director of the Guyana NRA, opted to rest from the Open Division, leaving his appetite open for the stern test of shooting his way to the number one spot in the Production Division, with the use of a CZ Shadow 2 semi-automatic pistol.
Meanwhile, Harry, the Director/Steel Challenge Chairperson of the Guyana Sport Shooting Foundation (GSSF), who started shooting professionally some four years ago, shot his way to the bronze medal in the Production Division.

Harry finished third behind more experienced shooters, with the homeboy Bruce Djosetiko shooting his way to the number one spot. Second place was occupied by Suriname Open 2018 Match Director, veteran shooter Romano Adel. Yuhong Lee of Aruba took the Open Division from Surinamese favourite Desmond Chang, who placed second, with Andrew “Shaggy” Wilson finishing third. In the Standard Division, Ronald Brown (the High Overall Senior Production); Hopkinson and Harry, took first, second and third in the Production Division.
The Guyanese pair winged out to neighbouring Suriname Wednesday last via Gum Air ahead of Thursday’s and Friday’s scheduled training programme conducted by Practical Shooting Grand Master, Jamaican Ronald “The Dragon” Brown.
Also, the Guyanese duo sent heartfelt regards to the Commissioner of Police, Leslie James, DSS, DSM; Commissioner General of GRA, Godfrey Statia, MS; Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defence Force and President of the Guyana NRA, Brigadier Patrick West, MSS; Guyana NRA Small-bore Captain Dale Hing and Secure Innovations & Concepts who all made this tour possible.
