Police have taken two men into custody in connection with the robbery of Ganesh Loaknauth, an overseas-based Guyanese, hours after he arrived in Guyana.

However, in a twist, the two suspects are the nephews of Loaknauth. The third suspect remains on the run, but is reportedly known to Police as he has had previous brushes with the law.robbery

Loaknauth had told Police that he recognised the voices of the attackers.

The overseas-based Guyanese on Wednesday was greeted by three armed men, one of whom, held a gun to his head as he exited his vehicle in the garage of his Lancaster Housing Scheme, Unity, East Coast Demerara home. Loaknauth, who is reportedly a businessman, was forced to enter his house in the company of the three men who quickly tore his suitcases away from him and demanded cash and other valuables.

The traumatised businessman had told media operatives that he handed over everything they demanded, fearing that any hesitation would result in him losing his life.

The men had fled the scene with cash, jewellery and other valuables the man had in his possession. He was relieved of close to US$3500, a wedding band, a quantity of clothing and several pairs of footwear. The clothing and footwear were reportedly emptied from the suitcases.

Guyana Times understands that the money was the proceeds of the recent sale of a property Loaknauth owned. Loaknauth had told the investigating officers that though the faces of the three men were covered, he believed that two of the perpetrators were his own nephews. Investigations are continuing.
