Port Mourant Secondary “Fyah Friday” set for February 22

Exciting cricket will continue in Berbice when the Port Mourant Secondary School-organised cricket tournament “Fyah Friday” bowls off. The tournament is expected to feature national players in Jonathan Foo, Eon Hooper, Rajiv Ivan among others. The fifth edition of the tournament will bowl off at the Albion Sports Complex on February 22, 2019 from 09:00h local time.

feature in the much-anticipated cricket festival.
Lower Corentyne Secondary, JC Chandisingh Secondary, Port Mourant Secondary and Corentyne Comprehensive are the schools from Corentyne. The elite New Amsterdam (Multilateral) Secondary and Berbice High School are the New Amsterdam based schools. In the 2017 edition, the Tamesh Mohabir, and Andrew Williams-led New Amsterdam Secondary School took the “Fyah Friday” title.
In the past editions, the likes of Shimron Hetmyer, Veerasammy Permaul, Clinton Pestano and Gajanand Singh were among the top players that featured in the

exciting event. This time around, West Indies U-19 sensation, Kevlon Anderson, will be among the promising young talents on show. Garfield Benjamin, Junior Sinclair and Alex Algoo are some of the youngsters who will be on show.
The three T20 match tournaments will be played in coloured clothing, white balls with the semis and final to be played under floodlights at the historic Albion Sports Complex ground. In addition to the cricket, Albion Sports Complex will be transformed into an electric atmosphere with trampolines for the kids, finger-licking barbeque and music.
This tournament has shown progress over the years; it is used for raising funds for Port Mourant Secondary, aiding in the completion of educational projects. Tickets for children are $200 and adults will pay $300. (Brandon Corlette)
