PUC meets with Digicel Guyana on telecom expansion, service improvements 

The Public Utilities Commission (PUC) has met with representatives of U-Mobile (Cellular) Inc, trading as Digicel Guyana, to discuss developments in the telecommunications sector and planned investments in network infrastructure.
According to the PUC, the meeting was held at its office at New Garden Street, Queenstown, Georgetown, following a request for engagement by Digicel.
According to the Commission, the discussions focused on telecommunications service delivery and ongoing sector development in Guyana. Digicel outlined plans to expand and upgrade its network infrastructure in response to growing demand for services.
The company indicated that it intends to modernise its network, subject to regulatory approval, with significant investment directed toward expanding its fibre optic infrastructure along the East Bank and East Coast of Demerara, Berbice, and Linden. It also highlighted continued investment in its mobile network to support increasing data usage.
The meeting also addressed operational challenges related to infrastructure deployment and maintenance. The PUC noted these concerns and encouraged continued engagement between the parties.
The Commission said it welcomed the updates and reiterated its commitment to maintaining dialogue with service providers to support sector growth and ensure the delivery of reliable telecommunications services to consumers.
Digicel was represented by Chief External Affairs Officer Ana Rua, Chief Business Officer Liam Donnelly, and Chief Executive Officer for Digicel Guyana and Suriname, Deonarine Gopaul. The PUC delegation was led by Chairman Dr Nanda Gopaul, along with technical and administrative staff.
