Action in the quarterfinal playoffs of the Rupununi Football Association’s (RFA’s) Champions League continued on Sunday at the Saints Sports Club ground in St Ignatius Village with the first matchup of the female quarterfinals featuring Guyana Rush Saints versus the Sun Parakeets, whom they dominated for the entire match, in the process administering them a 5-0 thrashing.
Star of that encounter, Amanda Cabral, scored her goals in the 16th, 24th, 31st and 87th minutes, with a goal in support of the effort coming from Rosie Ritchie in the 65th minute.
In the male category, the Kanuku Harpies defeated the Jaguars FC 4-2, while Quarter-final 2 commenced with female teams Kanuku Harpies and Flash FC battling it out in a one-sided affair that the Harpies lost 1-5.
In Quarterfinal 3, the female Paiwomak Warriors defeated the Gladiators FC 2-1 in a thrilling encounter, thanks to the efforts of Samantha Roberts who registered goals in the 21st and 85th minutes respectively, while Vandette Henry scored the lone goal for Gladiators in the 70th minute.
And in quarterfinal 4, the male Guyana Rush Saints managed to tie their match with the Strikers FC 2-2. Paiwomak Warriors FC also defeated Gladiators FC 2-1 to culminate the quarterfinals.
The female teams competing in this tournament are Sun Parakeets, Guyana Rush Saints, Strikers FC, Titans United, Kanuku Harpies, Flash FC, Paiwomak Warriors and Gladiators FC (Defending Champions).
The male competing teams are Sun Parakeets, Paiwomak Warriors, Titans United, Kanuku Harpies, Jaguars FC, Guyana Rush Saints, Strikers FC and Tabatinga FC (Defending Champions).
The Rupununi Football Association provides a platform for both male and female teams from across the Rupununi to showcase their skills and talents. Teams are competing for a first place prize of $500,000, while second and third place will receive $300,000 and $150,000 respectively. Medals and trophies are included in the prizes. Prizes for the Most Valuable Player and Best Goal Keeper will also be up for grabs.
The return legs will be played on May 18, 19, 25 and 26.
