Milo Schools’ Football Tournament…

– Bishops’, Saints battle to stalemate

Queen’s College registered their first win in the 2019 Milo Schools’ Football Tournament in fine style on Monday afternoon.
On the other hand, their academic rivals the Bishops’ High School and St Stanislaus battled to a draw in the first of two games scheduled for the afternoon.
With bragging rights and points on the line, both teams opted for an aggressive approach, which made for an exciting game.

goal that came off the boots of Malachi Richards in the 20th minute. Bishops’ then held on to their lead, with a strong defence which was aided by St Stanislaus’ wayward shots at the goal.
When they could have become frustrated, Saints held their cool and were eventually able to draw out a penalty when a Bishops’ defender handled the ball. Josiah King’s shot was spot on to level the score in the 58th minute. The remainder of the encounter went without another goal, leaving the sides to settle for a draw.
A rain of goals came in the second game, which kept the school-aged spectators on their feet.
Queen’s College opened the scoring in the sixth minute, thanks to a Ronniel Lord strike. Ten minutes later Diarra Thomas found the back of the net for QC’s second goal. By this time, North Ruimveldt had found their rhythm, which resulted in Orlando Dickie scoring in the 19th. The scores were equalised at 2-2 by Henry Elcock in the 23rd minute. But Queen’s College refused to let their opponents get away with two back-to-back goals and retaliated in the 27th and 28th minutes respectively with goals from Ravaldo Verreira and Harrell Dosantos to push the score to 4-2.
Just before the half expired, Lord netted his second goal to further extend QC’s lead. North Ruimveldt added to their woes in the 41st minute with an own goal pushing the scoreline to 6-2. Shaquan Favorite tried to save face for the North Ruimveldt team with a goal in the 60th minute, but it was not enough to ease the sting of the 6-3 loss to QC.
The Petra-organised Milo Under-18 tournament will continue this weekend at the Ministry of Education Ground, Carifesta Avenue.
