A 36-year-old Albouystown, Georgetown labourer has been charged with attempting to obstruct the course of justice after allegedly falsely implicating himself in an ongoing murder investigation.
Junior Callender of Hogg Street, Albouystown, appeared before Magistrate Orintha Schmidt at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, charged with attempting to obstruct the course of justice contrary to Section 330 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01.
The charge stems from Police investigations into the murder of Danier Vegas Infante, which occurred on May 10 at Forshaw Street, Alberttown.
According to Police, Callender allegedly attempted to obstruct the course of justice by falsely claiming responsibility in connection with the matter. Investigators contend that the alleged act was intended to take responsibility for a wanted person linked to the murder probe.
Callender was arrested Thursday and formally charged on Friday.

When the charge was read to him in court, he was not required to enter a plea.
Magistrate Schmidt granted him bail in the sum of $175,000 and ordered that he report to the Police every Friday at 09:00h.
The matter was adjourned to July 3.
On May 10, Infante was killed at the business place on Foreshaw Street, Queenstown, Georgetown. The 23-year-old was employed as a janitor at the workplace.
Preliminary investigations had indicated that Infante was at the business place at about 05:45h when four males arrived in the area. Reports are that one of the suspects, who was armed with a handgun, approached two men who were seated outside the establishment and engaged them in conversation.
It is alleged that Infante later exited the building and approached the group, at which point the armed suspect discharged a round in his direction. Infante was struck and fell to the ground.
The suspect then entered a motor vehicle and fled the scene along Foreshaw Street. The other suspects also escaped in separate vehicles. A doctor pronounced Infante dead at the scene.
Following the shooting, Police issued wanted bulletins for 21-year-old Baraka Garnett, 26-year-old Makhail Mario Joseph, and Nicholas Daby.
