Rain forces abandonment of play in ESCL Over-40 competition

Rain last Sunday forced the abandonment of play in the 2022 Essequibo Softball Cricket League’s (ESCL’s) Over-40, 20-Over competition, but the action is set to resume this Sunday with two matches.

Wakeel Layne

According to ESCL Chairman Wakeel Layne, two games were scheduled, but because of the rain, play was not possible, and four teams shared the points.
However, the match between Caribbean Cricket Club and Queenstown Tigers could have been played at Hibernia facility, had the Tigers not failed to take the field, giving Caribbean Cricket Club a win by walkover.
Layne also informed that the semi-final segment is slated for May 15th at a venue to be named. Six teams are currently participating.
He also notified that the championship game is fixed for May 22nd at the Affiance Number 1 ground, and that match would be preceded by the third-game play-off.
The winners are set to pocket $100,000 and a trophy, while the runners-up team will take home $50,000 and a trophy as well. The Most Valuable Player in the final would collect $10,000, while $20,000 is up for grabs for the most runs and most wickets respectively in the entire competition. The player with most catches would also be awarded $10,000.
Meanwhile, the two matches to be played this Sunday would see Ravens Sports Club tackling Queenstown Tigers, and Sunrisers Masters and Devonshire Castle Sports Club confronting each other. Venues are to be announced.
