GCB/Dave West Indian Imports and Exports U-15 Inter-County tourney continues today

Due to constant rain and the wet surface at the Number 69 Ground in Berbice, the highly anticipated clash between Berbice and Demerara was abandoned, and only one match was possible in the second round of the Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB’s) Dave West Indian Imports and Exports tourney.
The tournament will continue today, Thursday April 28, with Demerara playing Rising Stars Select Under-15 at Everest, while Berbice will take on Essequibo at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground at Bourda.

In the opening round of the tournament, Berbice defeated the Rising Stars Select team at Number 69 Village, while Demerara got the better of Essequibo at the Imam Bacchus ground at Affiance, Essequibo. In the second-round lone match, the Rising Stars recorded a four-wicket win against Essequibo at the Everest cricket ground.
Led by an all-round effort from Jonathon Mentore, Rising Stars chased down the target of 163, Mentore making an unbeaten 29 from 91 balls and taking 2 wickets for 35 runs.
Extras contributed 53 to the Rising Stars’ total, while Arvin Suknaand made 27 and Keron Phillips made 21. Verendra Pooran took 2-15 for Essequibo.

Berbice will be aiming to dominate Essequibo, who remain winless

Earlier, Essequibo made 162-4 from 50 overs, thanks to a 51-run opening stand from Ethon Silas and Omarion Smith. Zandon Rose was the top-scorer for Essequibo with 51 runs from 61 balls, which was decorated with five fours and one six. Nicholas Lovell contributed 38 in an otherwise lacklustre Essequibo performance.
The players will be aiming to get good performances under their belts, as the selectors seek to assemble the best team to represent Guyana at the upcoming Regional Under-15 tournament. The final match of the tournament is set for Friday April 29 at GCC Bourda. (Brandon Corlette)
