Ramlall inspires Guyana to its first 3×3 win after opening defeats

Guyana secured their first victory in the Men’s 3×3 basketball competition at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, defeating the Cayman Islands 21-17 in their third Pool A encounter after suffering consecutive losses earlier in the day.
Anish Ramlall produced an outstanding performance, scoring a team-high nine points to lead the Guyanese outfit, while Travis Belgrave provided valuable support with seven points and one rebound as Guyana closed out the contest in confident fashion.
Despite the defeat, Cayman Islands had the game’s leading scorer in Nathaniel Hurlston-Anderson, who finished with 11 points and three rebounds, but his efforts were not enough to prevent Guyana from registering their maiden Pool A triumph.
The victory came after a difficult start to the tournament for the Guyanese squad.
In their opening match, hosts Scotland claimed a 21-14 victory in regulation time. Skyler White starred for the Scots with eight points and five rebounds, while Owen McCormack added six points and two rebounds.

Christian Hinckson was Guyana’s leading contributor with six points and six rebounds, but the Caribbean nation was unable to recover as Scotland controlled the contest to open their campaign with a win.
Guyana then faced a formidable New Zealand side in their second Pool A fixture and endured a heavy 21-3 defeat.
After showing promise against Scotland, the Guyanese struggled to match the clinical shooting of the Kiwis, who connected on 75 per cent of their attempts from beyond the arc while restricting Guyana to just three points.
Joshua Book spearheaded New Zealand’s dominant display with 10 points, while Christian Martin chipped in with six points as the Oceania nation comfortably secured victory.
