Rape accused on $270,000 bail

A 49-year-old taxi driver, who allegedly raped a 12-year-old child, appeared before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Wednesday.
The rape charge was read to Orlando Fraser, of Pike Street, Kitty, Georgetown, by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan. The charge stated that on June 10, 2019, at Pike Street, he engaged in sexual penetration of a child under the age of 16.
The matter was heard in-camera.
The prosecution is contending that the taxi driver and the child are known to each other, since he would usually transport the girl to and from school each day. It is alleged that on June 10, 2019, the driver picked up the child from school and took her to his home where the rape occurred. The matter was reported to the Child Care and Protection Agency (CCPA) after the girl confided in her teacher. On Wednesday, Fraser was released on $270,000 bail.
The case will continue on February 3, 2020.
