Regal All-Stars have marched into another softball final and will now meet Speedboat for another championship after both teams progressed to the finals of the Regal Sport Softball Tournament after their semifinal matches on Sunday at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground Queenstown.
Speedboat defeated Ariel All-Stars to set up the showdown against the consistent Regal All-Stars who brushed aside Herstelling.
Regal All-Stars took first knock, hammering 157 for the loss of seven in 15 overs. Navindra Singh (27), Ravindra Ramnath (29) and Safraz Esau (32) were the backbone of the innings getting good starts but could not carry on to bigger innings.
However, Dyram Persaud and Rickey Sargent did well to reduce the damage but were unable to contain the explosive batting of Regal.
Dyram’s three overs went for 23 runs while claiming three wickets. Similarly, Sargent returned two wickets for 13 runs from his three overs.
In reply, Herstelling could not find their form, having crumbled to 143 all out. Reid tried to hold the innings together in the run chase but only managed 22 while Uniss Yusuf top scored with a quick fire 34 which was not enough to help Herstelling chase down the mammoth total. Rohit Dutchin starred with the ball collecting 3-8 from his three overs at the same time as Sachin Singh bagged 3-4 in his three overs.
The last time these two teams met in a final Speedboat won at the Guyana Softball Cup six while in a prior meeting Regal won making this the clash of the giants in the end of year showdown even more dicey.
The final begins at 14:30 at DCC with musical entertainment from the Caribbean Hotshots band and commentary from the exciting John Ramsingh and Inderjeet Persaud.
