In a bid to raise awareness as it relates to safe driving, students across Region 10 (Upper Demerara- Berbice) took to the streets in large numbers as part of a rally organised by the Region Ten Road Safety Association (RTRSA), in partnership with the E Division (Linden-Kwakwani) Traffic Department.
The awareness rally, which commenced near the Linden Technical Institute (LTI) Ground, was flagged off by the Police Scouts, in the presence of Inspector Shawn Massay, Deputy Linden Mayor Waneka Arrindell and RTRSA Chairman Vernon Todd, among other stakeholders and members. The rally was undertaken as part of the 15th Road Safety Month celebrations, which commenced on November 1, with this year’s theme being, “Making roads safer for everyone starts with you, observe, think, drive. A second is all it takes to save a life.”
During the rally, the students shouted slogans related to road safety to the public as they campaigned on road safety. The campaigners also carried placards highlighting the importance of road safety and fatal risks caused by vehicles. The rally proceeded through the thoroughfares of the mining town and culminated at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) Ground. Regional Chairman Renis Morian, in his address to the gathering, admonished students to practise road safety every day and to use the roads correctly. (Utamu Belle)
