An Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) man was on Tuesday slapped with two rape charges and hauled before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
George Butters is accused of raping an elderly woman on August 13, 2018 during a home invasion.
The second charge alleged that between August 20 and August 21, 2018, he broke and entered the dwelling house of another woman and sexually harassed her.
Butters appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
The Police prosecutor objected to bail while citing the serious nature and the prevalence of the offences. The court was also informed that he was positively identified as the perpetrator during an identification (ID) parade.
However, Butters was placed on $200,000 bail on each charge, totalling $400,000. The matter was transferred to the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court for September 11.
Guyana Times was told that Butters is expected to face other charges of similar nature.
