“As a result of the sudden spike in COVID-19 cases in Batavia village, a seven-member team visited the area on August 3, 2020, to conduct further screening and testing,” Dr Sagala is quoted by the Department of Public Information as saying.
The team also visited Kartabo and Agatash on August 3, and River’s View, Itaballi and Karrau Creek on August 4. A total of 76 tests were conducted during the August 3-4 period, yielding an increase of eight cases of COVID-19 infection; thereby pushing the total cases in the region to 104, inclusive of two deaths as at August 4, 2020.
According to Dr Sagala, the Health Emergency Operations Committee (HEOC) recently identified Bartica as a high-risk location for COVID-19 in Region Seven, after data showed that persons who tested positive had contact with the area.
“Persons who tested positive for the disease have had contact with the community in one way or another. We continue to remind residents of the region not to let your guard down,” the RHO emphasised.
He also reminded residents to observe all COVID-19 precautions, and to be responsible.
Visits to Wineperu, St Mary’s Quarry and Issano Landing have been planned for this week, to conduct screening and testing as part of the health team’s response of COVID-19 in the region.
