RHTY&SC crowned champions after defeating Albion

The dominant Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) got the better of their counterparts, Albion Cricket Club, by five wickets in the BCB/Beacon Foundation 20/20 Cricket competition played at the Albion Sports Complex to help in raising cancer awareness.
Three of the top cricketing clubs in Berbice: RHTY&SC, Albion and Young Warriors, participated in this exciting cricket fest, but six of the players were debarred from competing in response to a call from the higher authorities. Those debarred players included Devendra Bishoo, Veerasammy Permaul, Clinton Pestano and Gudakesh Motie.

Albion v RHTY&SC
In the second and final match of this competition, home team Albion took first strike and scored 112-8 in their allotted 20 overs. Skipper Sharaz Ramcharan top-scored with a classy 38 that was decorated with five fours, while fellow opener Adrian Sukwah chipped in with 14.
Bowling for the disciplined RHTY&SC team, Keith Simpson took 3-10 in his quota of four overs, which included one maiden. Captain Shawn Pereira took 3-24 in four overs with some superb leg-spin bowling, and Berbice U-17 off-spinner Jonathan Rampersaud took 2-24.
Responding, the RHTY&SC registered 113-5 in 18.1 overs, with left-handed stroke-maker Delbert Hicks top-scoring with an elegant 30 that included four spicy boundaries. He was well-supported by “Player of the Match” Keith Simpson, who scored an entertaining 23 not out that included one four and one huge six.
Off-spinner Sharaz Ramcharran took 2-14 in his four overs, while Gourav Ramesh took one wicket in a losing effort.

Young Warriors v RHTY&SC
The RHTY&SC had earlier defeated Young Warriors to set up the finals with Albion Cricket Club. Young Warriors had taken the first strike and had scored 103-9. Batting for the Canje-based team, Linden Austin had scored 30, inclusive of three fours.
Bowling for the RHTY&SC, Jonathan Rampersaud had taken 3-17 while Shawn Pereira had taken 2-12 in three overs.
In reply, RHTY&SC had scored 104-7 in 19.5 overs, with the left-handed Surrendra Kissonlall top-scoring with 36.
Bowling for Young Warriors, Linden Austin had snared 4-25 in a losing effort, with the RHTY&SC winning the match by three wickets.
Numerous spectators were present during this tournament, including those players who were debarred from participating.
Among the sponsors of this event were ANSA Mc AL, BK and the Beacon Foundation. The RHTY&SC was awarded the first prize of $100,000 and a trophy. The cash prize was promptly donated to the Beacon Foundation. The Albion Cricket Club, which also won $50,000 and a trophy, likewise promptly donated their cash prize to the Beacon Foundation.
