Rockstone robbery: 3 nabbed with businesswoman’s jewellery, phones

A 29-year-old man of Georgetown and two 25-year-old males of Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice), are now in custody for robbing a 57-year-old businesswoman.
The trio invaded the woman’s Rockstone Junction, Mabura Access Road, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) grocery store on Friday.
The suspects reportedly approached her shop on two XR motorcycles without number plates, and one of the suspects went into the shop and purchased a few items then re-joined his accomplices.
After some time, they left the store but were lingering in the area smoking “weed”.
The men then rode off in the direction of Mabura, and shortly afterwards, the businesswoman said she retired to her room.
Some 20 minutes later, her dogs began barking continuously, causing her grandson to become suspicions. The young lad armed himself with a cutlass and went outside to make checks.

He was then confronted by one of the suspects, who is known to the family from Kuru Kuru, Soesdyke-Linden Highway. Police said that the suspect choked the businesswoman’s grandson, pointed a handgun to his head and instructed him to be quiet as his accomplices, whose faces were tied with black jerseys, barged in and confronted his grandmother.
The bandits then relieved the woman of her jewellery valued $240,000 and went to the shop, where they took her “bowl” along with five cellular phones valued at $164,000. The men then escaped and the victims raised an alarm and alerted a car driver who made efforts to apprehend the men, but this proved futile.
Following the robbery, Police in Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni) and 10 collaborated and intercepted the three suspects at Konawaruk Junction, Potaro Road.
The trio was at the time riding two XR 150 motorcycles. A search was conducted on them, where the stolen items were found.
Police also found in a haversack belonging to one of the suspects, three bulky scotch-taped plastic parcels containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
They were all arrested and escorted to the Mahdia Police Station. The suspected cannabis was weighed and amounted to 1243 grams.
