Royal Castle is set to stage its second annual ChickNRun 5K/10K/Walk/Run/Duathlon and Family Funday on April 26 at the Scouts Association Ground on Woolford Avenue, Georgetown, with organisers promising a full morning of competition and family-orientated activities.
The event is scheduled to begin at 06:00h and will feature a range of races catering to participants of all ages, from five years old to over 50. This year’s edition will also introduce a new element to the local sporting calendar – the duathlon, a ride-run-ride-run format that is expected to add a different challenge for competitors.
Organisers have indicated that more than $600,000 in prizes will be up for grabs across the various categories, including awards for the best chicken costume and the best-performing school, alongside the traditional race prizes.
In addition to the competitive aspect, the event will provide an opportunity for regional and international athletes to secure or confirm qualifying times using the Odyssey Timing System. The system will be managed by Odyssey Timings & Events, a Grenada-based company with experience in race timing and event management across the Caribbean. The event is being coordinated in collaboration with STRIDE592 and the Guyana Athletics Association.
According to organisers, the primary objective of ChickNRun is to encourage participation in fitness activities across all age groups while creating an inclusive environment that blends sport with community engagement.
The programme will also include food, games, giveaways, and other activities designed to appeal to families and spectators throughout the morning.
Royal Castle acknowledged the support of its main sponsors – Bounty Farms Ltd, Massy Distribution (Guyana), Banks DIH Holdings Inc, and Woodlands Hospital Inc – for their role in facilitating the event.
