Rugby fiesta to hit National Park today

The Guyana Rugby Football Union will stage their first tournament for 2018 being their flagships sevens. Today is promised to be filled with non-stop action as the country’s top rugby teams put their bodies on the line against Trinidad and Tobago’s Harvard team. The local teams set to suit up are defending champions Pespi Hornets, Yamaha Caribs, Panthers, Police Falcons and the Guyana Defence Force (GDF).
Up for grabs is the winning purse of winner’s purse of $200,000, compliments of Top Brandz Distributors which have embraced the tournament under their Hairoun Beer. Fire Side Grill N Chill has also pledged support. Trinidad sevens champions Harvard featuring our very own Claudius Butts while Kevin McKenzie from Australia will be playing for the hornets

Butts believes the attractive prize money will no doubt bring out the best in the players. “This is a touring team and the guys have been putting in some work to come to Guyana and put on a good show. They will be taking this very serious and are coming here to win, but at the same time, we want to have fun, so it will be good for people to really come out and see some good rugby on Saturday
The tournament is set to start from 11:00hrs and the team finishing second will receive $100,000. The Most Valuable Player (MVP) will pocket $20,000.The females will also play for a cash prize that is yet to be determined.
