Rugby team to receive help from Argentine specialist scrum coach

The Guyana National Ruby team, the “Green Machine” will given a boost in their preparation for the Rugby America North (RAN) 15s Finals later this month in Mexico City, against the host, as a specialist scrum coach from Argentina is set to work with the national rugby Coach, Laurie Adonis and his charges.

Martino and the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) will collaborate to make the sojourn of the coach from Argentina a reality.
In speaking of the Argentine assisting the local ruggers, Head Coach Adonis said, “Our scrum has been suspect in all three outings to date and so we have welcomed the Ambassador’s initiative of sourcing a specialist scrum coach to assist us in identifying / sharing ideas on improving”
He added, “We hope this budding partnership will lead to further collaborations with Argentina’s Rugby which is the leading powerhouse in South America as well as being ranked in the top 15 in the world.
The coach is adamant that the partnership will pave the way for other partnerships in the future, stating, “This initiative is very important to union and its players as it opens the doors we have been knocking on for some time; kudos to the Ambassador who has been an ardent supporter and the Senior Minister of Sport. GOA has stepped up in time and should not be left out”.
The National 15’s Rugby team defeated Trinidad and Tobago 22 – 18, to win the Rugby Americas North South zone title and a win against Mexico on July 27, will be a major boost in their 2019 World Cup qualifying campaign.
