Sai Baba’s birth remembered

Swami Sathya Sai Baba’s life achievements and teachings were celebrated on Friday as devotees commemorated his birth anniversary with a special service at the Prema Nilayam Centre on Laluni Street, Queenstown.
Over 200 persons graced the occasion where an illustration of his accomplishments was presented.
The evening commenced with a singing of universal — after which there was a presentation on the life of the religious leader.
Sai Baba or Sathyanarayana Raju was born on November 23, 1926, and was an Indian guru, a spiritual leader and philanthropist who is the reincarnation of Sai Baba of Shirdi.
According to one of the attendees, this ceremony was important as it remembered Sai Baba for his teachings which are very much needed in this time of society.
The hospitals, educational institutes and other organisations which he established continue to operate to the benefit of people around the world. He would have also assisted in the provision of potable water to several communities in India where these services were lacking.
Volunteers of the Sai centers in Guyana are involved in a large number of social services and humanitarian programmes.
Among the programmes conducted in Guyana are the building of homes for needy families; uterine fibroid surgeries in collaboration with the Public Health Ministry and weekly feeding programmes for the destitute and homeless.
The organisation’s members come from all faiths and share a common goal: to reach the ultimate goal of realisation of their innate divinity by practising the teachings of love and service taught by their spiritual teacher, Sathya Sai Baba.
