School was rushed to the hospital around 12:30hrs on Wednesday by her teacher.

According to reports, the child along with other students were walking on the roadway making their way back to school when the accident occurred. Her teacher spoke to this publication and related that the child who reportedly realised she was about to be struck, ran from the car but was not fast enough.

The motorcar which was out of control at this time ran over her foot causing her to fall. Students who were with her at the time ran to the school and informed the child’s teacher of what had occurred.

She was then picked up and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she is being treated. Nurses confirmed that the child will be unable to walk for a significant period of time because of the extent of her injuries.

The driver of the motorcar was taken into custody at the Sparendaam Police Station.

Investigations are ongoing.
