Security guard among 2 nabbed with gun, ammo

Two men were in the wee hours of Monday arrested after one of them was found to be in possession of an illegal firearm and matching ammunition.

The firearm and ammunition found on the security officer

Based on reports received, the two males, a 24-year-old security officer of Dr Miller Street, Triumph, East Coast Demerara, and a 20-year-old PREP worker of Canterbury Walk, Beterverwagting, ECD, were seen standing in the vicinity of Humphrey’s Bakery by members of Police Patrol.
At the time, the security officer was seen with a firearm in his right hand. As such, the patrol immediately stopped and the ranks exited the vehicle after which they took possession of the firearm. When examined, it appeared to be a Beretta pistol with four live rounds of 9mm ammunition.
He was reportedly questioned and when asked if he was the holder of a firearm and ammunition licence, he responded in the negative. He was, however, told of the offence, cautioned and arrested along with the other young man.
The firearm and ammunition were lodged as Police continue their investigations.
