Attempted robbery

Shaquille Mentore of Kitty, Georgetown, who was reportedly involved in an attempted robbery of a woman in Campbellville appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Thursday.

Charged: Shaquille Mentore

The 20-year-old pleaded guilty to the charge, which stated that on February 18, at William Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, he stole a bag containing articles valued at $49, 240, which belongs to Louisiana Campbell.
Police Prosecutor informed the court that on February 18, Campbell was walking along William Street, Campbellville, when she was confronted by Mentore and his now-dead accomplice, Randy Bowen.
The court also heard that Mentore snatched the woman’s bag containing articles and attempted to escape. However, an alarm was raised by public-spirited persons, who then gave chase and the men ran into the yard of a licensed firearm holder where they were shot.

Dead: Randy Bowen

Bowen died at the scene and Mentore was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where Mentore was admitted for gunshot injuries to both legs. Mentore was discharged from the hospital and charged for the offence.
The young man is no stranger in court as he was sentenced to 15 months in jail on January 17 by Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus after he admitted to stealing a phone valued $140,000 from Nicholas Gangaram on Croal Street, where he stated that he needed money to buy a bicycle.
The Chief Magistrate to the prosecution and Mentore’s plea of mitigation fined him $70,000. Failure to pay the fine will result in him serving eight weeks in jail. He was further placed under the supervision of the probation officer for 12 months.
