Self sponsored Guyana team to play Tri-nation b/ball in Jamaica

The Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) will be participating in the Jamaica Basketball Association hosted Tri-Nation Basketball Invitational from Friday, November 25 to Monday, November 28 at the Jamaica National Indoor Sports Centre

According to a release by the GABF, “Due to monies owed to local creditors following the hosting of the Caribbean Basketball Federation U16 championships in Guyana by the GABF and the $7.78 Million owed by the National Sports Commission to the GABF; the executives of the GABF are self-financing the travel costs for the Guyana team to participate in Jamaican hosted Tri-Nation Basketball Invitational.”

Guyana National team will have a mix of junior and senior players as part of the developmental thrust of the GABF, consistent with Guyana’s hosting of the Caribbean Basketball Federation U16 Championships in July 2016 and Guyana’s U15 participation in the Central American Caribbean Basketball Championship in Puerto Rico in August 2016; the other teams in the Tri-Nation Basketball Invitational are American Basketball Association’s (ABA) semi pro outfit – the Libertyville Vipers, Jamaica Senior team and Jamaica Under Twenty-One teams

The Jamaica Invitational is expected to be staged annually and will feature six exciting games showcasing young and upcoming players during four days of high quality basketball. The two top teams will compete for the Championship Trophy.

The Guyana touring team will include the 13 players; Jermaine Slater, Nathan Saul, Dominique Vincente, Nikkolio Smith, Terron Welch, Michael Turner, Travis Belgrave, Stanton Rose, Roger John, Jason Squires, Curt English and Akeem Kanhai, Head Coach and Mark Agard.
