Sex worker slapped with robbery charge, granted bail

Repeat offender Godfrey Cox was once again placed before the court of law after he was slapped with a charge of armed robbery, seven weeks after being released from Police custody.
The 19-year-old sex worker made his appearance on Thursday in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts and denied the charge that was read to him.
The charge was read by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and stated that Cox, of Lot 49 Princes Street, Charlestown, Georgetown, stole from the person of Maniram Parsaram, one gold chain and a pendant valued $80,000 while he was in the vicinity of High Street, Georgetown on December 29, 2018.
Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield objected to bail being granted while informing the court the stolen item was recovered on the person of the defendant while the pendant still remained missing.
However, the sex worker was lucky to be granted his pre-trial liberty by the Chief Magistrate. He was placed on $10,000 bail and ordered to return to court on January 11.
