Shameer Baksh Memorial Cycle Race and Cricket Match set for today

The inaugural Shameer Baksh Memorial Cycle Race and Cricket Match are set for staging today, Sunday March 13, at the Albion Community Centre ground on the Corentyne Coast in East Berbice.

The venue will come alive today with top teams Albion and Blairmont Blazers set to clash in the 50-over cricket match. The game, which bowls off at 9:30h, will feature several veritable cricketing wizards representing Albion, including Devendra Bishoo, Kevin Sinclair, Gudakesh Motie, Jonathan Foo, Anthony Bramble, Kandasammy Surujnarine, Sharaz Ramcharran, Adrian Sukhwa, Ramesh Kassinath, Kelvin Umroa, Gaurav Ramesh, Joshua Harrichan, Dimitri Cameron, Beshan Surujnarine, Jeetendra Autar and Devendra Latchman.

Team Blairmont

Blairmont Blazers would be represented by the following veritable cricketing hawks: Javed Karim, Kevon Jawahir, Kevin Sinclair, Seon Glasgow, Neil Persaud, Chris Harry, Nigel Deodat, Satyah France, Waqar Hassan, Farouk Suban, Suresh Dhani, Altav Balman, Razam Koobir and Arun Jaikaran. A fantastic game is anticipated.

Team Albion

Additionally, today’s Shameer Baksh Memorial Cycle Race, which would be held in collaboration with Burning Flames Cycle Club, would be contested in the following categories: 50-years and over, 20-50 years, and Juveniles.
This race, a Region Five activity, would pedal off at 8am from Big Bs – Baksh Restaurant at Bush Lot, West Coast Berbice and finish at Big Bs – Baksh Restaurant at D’Edward village, WCB. The aim of this event is to inspire youths to take up any kind of sports, and encourage individuals to keep their fitness levels intact.
The day’s activities are in memory of the father of Shabeer Baksh, proprietor of Big B’s – Baksh Restaurant.
Another branch of Big B’s would soon be opening at Movie Towne at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara.
