Showstoppers, Hustlers progress to final 8

Two-time defending champions, Showstoppers as well as previous finalist, Hustlers have powered through to the quarter-final rounds after some heated round-of-16 action in West Demerara/ East Bank Demerara Guinness of “Greatest of the Streets” Football championships.

The test of nerves came into effect when the action resumed at the Pouderoyen Tarmac on Friday night as the business end of the tournament heats up.
Progressing to Tuesday’s quarter-finals are ESPN who play Ballers Empire from 20:00h, followed by West Side Ballers and Rising Stars from 20:30 h. Hustlers then clash with Dream team from 21:00h followed by Showstoppers and Boom Bang from 21:30h. The winners of the first match play that of the same in the third while second match victor comes up against the fourth.
Friday’s action saw Ballers win 1-0 on penalty kicks against Patentia Money Tem after their matched ended 2-2. Two Guinness Goals (score in the final 3 minutes) brought the deadlock since Ballers’ Kevin Frank net in the 32nd but was equalised by Kenton Boyce two minutes later.
Boom Bang won 2-1 on penalty kicks against Up Like Seven after their match failed to produce any goal while Hustlers crushed Mocha 3-0; Kwame Holder with a double (4th and 17th) and Sunil Logan (15th) were the scorers.
ESPN replicate an identical victory over Parafait Hard Ball with their marksmen being the Lythcott brothers Trevon and Kevon scoring in the 14th and 17th respectively followed by Pernell Schultz in the 18th.
More so, Orville Stewart’s strike in the 14th helped Dream team edge Hamrony Warriors 1-0 likewise did Rising Stars over Zeelugt Warriors where Eon King made the differen in the 13th minute. Champions Showstoppers continued their smooth sailing winning 2-0 against Harmony Ballers via strikes from Dexroy Adams (14th) and Stephon Jupiter (17th).
Up for grabs is the winning purse of $400,000 and a spot in the national play-offs; the runners-up will be given $200 000 and a trophy while third- and fourth-placed finishers will receive $150 000 and $100 000 respectively along with trophies.
